Chasing Rhinos With the Swami – Volume Two By Shyamasundar Das
In October 1970, A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami arrived in India with twenty of his Western disciples, determined to re-ignite the ancient tradition of Krishna consciousness in the land of its origin. Srila Prabhupada and his “Dancing White Elephants” quickly became a national sensation.
Within less than eighteen months, Prabhupada had established ISKCON as a major spiritual force in India, laying the foundations for three major temples and a dozen centers across the country.
In June 1971, Shyamasundar Das became Prabhupada’s personal secretary. For the next two years, he traveled with Prabhupada around the globe—throughout India, to Cold War Russia, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Japan, Europe, and America—witnessing firsthand Prabhupada’s extraordinary achievements.
Now, in Volume Two of Chasing Rhinos With the Swami, Shyamasundar shares his personal stories and observations from this remarkable period. Illustrated with 180 photographs and drawing on extensive research and intimate firsthand experience, this volume offers a vivid portrait of Srila Prabhupada, his disciples, and the rapidly expanding Hare Krishna movement during one of the most exciting chapters of Prabhupada’s journey.
