Gopala Campu: By Srila Jiva Gosvami Translated By Bhanu Swami
Gopala Campu is a classical Sanskrit work by Srila Jiva Goswami that presents the divine pastimes of Lord Krishna in a unique literary form that blends poetry and prose. This English edition has been carefully translated from the original Sanskrit by His Holiness Bhanu Swami, a senior ISKCON guru and respected scholar known for his faithful and precise renderings of Gaudiya Vaishnava scriptures.
Bhanu Swami is widely recognized for his translations of many important works including the commentaries of Srila Jiva Goswami on Bhakti Rasamrta Sindhu and Brahma Samhita, as well as the commentaries of Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura on Srimad Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam. His deep familiarity with Sanskrit, Bengali, and the Gaudiya philosophical tradition makes this translation both reliable and spiritually sensitive.
A campu is a traditional literary genre that combines ornate verses with flowing prose. It is known for its sophisticated style, poetic beauty, use of metaphor, and layered meanings. In Gopala Campu, Srila Jiva Goswami employs this form to narrate Krishna’s pastimes from His divine appearance through His return to Vraja, His eternal abode.
This work is especially notable for its unique narrative structure, which gradually leads the reader toward Krishna’s ultimate union with the gopis in marriage. Unlike other works on the same subject, Gopala Campu is arranged to reveal the inner emotional progression of Krishna’s pastimes, making it a deeply meditative and contemplative reading experience.
This book is intended for readers who already have some grounding in the Vaishnava tradition and wish to enter into its more confidential theological and devotional dimensions. It is best suited for serious practitioners, scholars, and lovers of classical devotional literature who seek to understand Krishna’s pastimes not only as history or poetry, but as transcendental revelation.

समीक्षाएं
This is my favorite book. I have read it so many times that needed to replace my last book. It is over 1000 pages and should be made into a set of two books. Eventually the cover separates from the binding due to the weight.
I was happy to replace it and gift another copy to some dear friends.
The books arrived within a few days of ordering them.
I highly recommend that every Gaudiya Vaisnava own a copy of this book written by Jiva Goswami.
