The Story of Rama (Parts I - II) A Sanskrit Course Book For Beginners
The Story of Rama (Parts I–II) is an engaging two-part Sanskrit coursebook that introduces beginners to the Sanskrit language through 16 episodes from the Ramayana.
The books combine the timeless story of Lord Rama with a carefully graded progression of Sanskrit vocabulary, grammar, reading, and language exercises, making them suitable for students who are beginning their study of Sanskrit.
What You Will Learn
Part I introduces the standard method of Sanskrit transliteration, the use of the gerund meaning “having done something,” and the declension of the Sanskrit word for “that” in all three genders.
Part II builds upon these foundations with an introduction to the imperative mood, important noun and pronoun declensions, gerunds used with prefixes, the past passive participle, conjugation of the middle voice, and the verb “to be” in the present, future, and past tenses. It also completes the standard method of transliteration introduced in Part I.
The coursebooks use appropriate illustrations and well-graded lessons to make Sanskrit approachable and enjoyable. Learning through familiar episodes from the Ramayana gives students an opportunity to develop their language skills while becoming acquainted with one of India's great classical narratives.
Suitable For
This set is ideal for students, young learners, teachers, Sanskrit beginners, and anyone interested in Indian literature and culture. It can also serve as a useful introductory resource for those whose studies in Yoga, Ayurveda, performing arts or Hindu scriptures involve Sanskrit terminology.
