Tattva Sandarbha: With Commentaries of Jiva Gosvami and Baladeva Vidyabhusana (Sat-sandarbha Book 1) is the first volume of Srila Jiva Gosvami's monumental Sat-sandarbha, presented with the commentary of Jiva Gosvami and Baladeva Vidyabhusana, along with the translation and presentation of HH Bhanu Swami.
The Sat-sandarbhas are among the most important works of Gaudiya Vaishnava philosophy. The word Sandarbha refers to a systematic composition that brings together important subjects and scriptural verses into a connected philosophical presentation. The complete series is divided into six volumes explaining Gaudiya epistemology, theology, and philosophy.
Tattva Sandarbha lays the philosophical foundation for the entire series by examining pramana, or the means of acquiring valid knowledge. Srila Jiva Gosvami discusses the various methods of proof and establishes sabda, or authoritative scriptural testimony, as the strongest means of knowing transcendental truth. Through systematic analysis, the Srimad Bhagavatam is established as the highest and most authoritative source among all scriptures.
The work also introduces the essential subjects developed throughout the remaining Sandarbhas: Krishna as the Supreme object of worship, bhakti as the spiritual practice, and prema as the ultimate goal of life. These themes of sambandha, abhidheya, and prayojana form the complete philosophical framework of the Sat-sandarbha.
An essential study for devotees, scholars, and students of Vedanta, Tattva Sandarbha provides the foundation for understanding the profound teachings of Srila Jiva Gosvami and the complete philosophy of the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition.
