These two Sanskrit dramas by Srila Rupa Gosvami depict the divine pastimes of Sri Krishna and the gopis, particularly Srimati Radharani, in different moods.
Vidagdha-Madhava focuses on Krishna’s romantic pastimes in Vrindavan, highlighting his playful and expert dealings with the gopis, filled with wit, charm, and deep emotions of love.
Lalita-Madhava portrays Krishna’s later pastimes in Dvaraka, where feelings of separation (vipralambha-bhava) from the gopis, especially Radharani, reach their peak, eventually leading to divine reunion.
Both works are masterpieces of Gaudiya Vaisnava literature, illustrating the highest expressions of pure devotion (prema-bhakti).
