Stava Mala by Srila Rupa Gosvami, Purnaprajna Das

Sri Stavamala, meaning “the garland of hymns,” is a renowned collection of devotional prayers and songs composed by Srila Rupa Goswami, one of the principal Six Gosvamis of Vrindavan and a foremost follower of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. This celebrated work occupies an important place in the devotional literature of the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition.
 
The Stavamala is a rich collection of stotrams, astakams, and dasakams—systematic devotional hymns of varying lengths. Through these prayers, Srila Rupa Goswami glorifies numerous personalities and subjects connected with the divine pastimes of Sri Krishna and Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, expressing profound devotion, humility, love, and spiritual longing.
 
The collection also includes Gitavali, a section of forty-two devotional songs describing Sri Krishna, His activities, and His loving exchanges with the gopis. Among the well-known compositions associated with this collection are “Radhe Jaya Jaya Madhava Dayite” and “Krishna Deva Bhavantam Vande,” cherished by devotees for their beautiful expressions of devotion.
 
Srila Prabhupada specifically recognized Stavamala among the sixteen especially popular and important works of Srila Rupa Gosvami. In his purport to Sri Chaitanya-caritamrta, he notes that Srila Krishnadasa Kaviraja Gosvami quoted many verses from Stavamala in his presentation of Lord Chaitanya's teachings.
 
According to the Gaura-ganoddesa-dipika, Srila Rupa Gosvami is identified with Sri Rupa Manjari, reflecting his exalted position within the devotional tradition of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. His writings have therefore played a foundational role in presenting the theology, philosophy, and devotional culture of Gaudiya Vaishnavism.
